The Chinese national herd is expected to produce 36 million tonnes of raw milk equivalent by 2015. |
Whilst Chinese supply isexpected to grow significantly from current levels, demand is expectedto increase even further to 42 million tonnes, representing a shortfallof 6 million tonnes in annual raw milk supply. Whilst the Chinesegovernment is committed to growing the national herd to meet thisfuture demand, it is recognised that not only should herd numbers beincreased but productivity per head should also be improved.
