In regards to the supply of cattle for export, the specifications which typically apply to Holstein-Friesian dairy cattle for export will be as follows:

  • Age: fifteen to twenty months at the time of shipment.
  • Milk production record: minimum 7,000 kilograms (305 days per annum). Milk production cattle must have family history.
  • Butter fat: more than 2.4 percent with the same family history as above.
  • Protein content: more than 3.1 percent with the same history as above.
  • Total solids including fat: equal to or above 12 percent with the same history as above.
  • Body weight at the time of selection: 220 kg to 380 kg with the same family history as above.
  • Body height at the time of selection: more than 1.35 metres.
  • Joined and/or unjoined.

Colour markings are those most commonly associated with Holstein-Friesian dairy cattle. They include white socks, white star foreheads and bodies with a balance of black and white markings.

Cattle for Chinese export must meet the required Chinese requirements to be classified as breeding cattle. Breed genealogy must be proven and for cattle born after 1 July 2005 must be certifiable for three generations back for both the sire and dam.
